Why this site exists

Mental health services in the Northern Province reach far fewer people than need them, and much of the gap is not clinical — it is information. People do not know what they are looking at, do not know that it is treatable, and do not know where to go.

In such a context, there is an opportunity to establish a system to provide information. This opportunity can be utilised to develop a dynamic website that provides not only information, but also a means of interaction, training, and capacity building.

What this website is

This website is a user-friendly and youth-friendly Mental Health Website which contains relevant basic information in an easily understandable format and language which can be promoted by provincial mental health services to clients and their family members to read and understand about the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing.

You can take a look at the sections and learn more about the terms we often encounter when talking about mental health and illness.

Here, you will find out that mental well-being can be cared for in many various ways. You can choose what could help you. Help can be useful not only for you but also for your loved ones. How will you find out that it is already appropriate to seek professional help, and how to behave in such situations? You will also find who to ask for help.

Who is behind it

The website is under the wing of the Mental Health Society, a long-standing mental health related NGO in Jaffna, with the partnership of FGIP. Clinical direction comes from Dr. S. Sivayokan, Consultant Psychiatrist, with contributions from Dr. M. Ganesan, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist.

Content pending Names, roles and photographs of the Society’s committee and clinical team were not supplied with the project material. Nothing has been invented — this section will be filled in once the Society provides it.

How we handle information

Everything on this site is written for a general reader and reviewed by clinicians before it is marked as final. Where a page carries a “Draft — pending clinical review” badge, it means the text has been prepared but not yet signed off, and you should treat it as a working draft rather than settled guidance.

Nothing here is a diagnosis. This site does not replace an assessment by a qualified health professional, and it should not be used to decide against seeking one.

Your privacy

This site does not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking. If you use the self-assessment tool, your answers stay in your own browser and are never sent anywhere. Videos hosted elsewhere open in a new tab rather than loading inside this page, so they cannot watch you read.
